It is heated, dry and warm enough to sit in base layers while the outside temperature is below freezing. Wet gear lives forward and stays out of the living space. Meals are cooked on board and eaten together around one table. Breakfast is early on active days and slower on passage days. There is no service hierarchy on Arctic Njord: the crew sail and cook, and guests help when they want to. Nights are quiet. At anchor there is no engine noise, and in most cases no other boat within sight. In winter the cabin lights go down early so the sky outside stays readable; in summer you learn to sleep in daylight. A day on board settles into a rhythm within about 48 hours. Sail, land, walk or ski or watch, return, eat, sleep.
